Welcome to the Celebrating the Gift of Life Writing Competition

Welcome to the Celebrating the Gift of Life Writing Competition, promoted by Evangelical Alliance Ireland and the Irish Christian Writers’ Fellowship. You can submit your stories (both fictional and real life), poems, songs, journalistic opinion pieces, blog posts and dramas through the online entry form.

We also welcome group entries in the under-18 category from schools, Sunday school classes, children’s clubs etc. as we particularly want to encourage young people to develop their creative writing skills. Teachers should use the contact form to enquire how they can avail of group entry rates (€2 per entry for groups of 10 or more entrants – €1 per entry for groups of 25 or more entrants).

The aim of the competition is to encourage a new generation of Christian writers, both in Ireland and further afield. We also believe that creative writing has a vital part to play in affirming the value of human life in all its wonderful diversity – particularly at a time when the political discourse in Ireland is questioning the Constitution’s protection of all human life.

There are prizes (€100 gift vouchers for first prizes and €50 gift vouchers for runners up) in each category for both adults and under-18s.  But we understand that none of us just write for the money. The joy of seeing your creative work actually published is the greatest prize for any writer. All prize winners, and other notable entries, will appear in a paperback book “A Celebration of Life” published by Success Services Ireland Press.

The maximum length per entry in each category is as follows:

Poems – 40 lines
Songs – 5 minutes
Blogs – 500 words
Journalistic Opinion Piece – 500 words
Fictional Short Story – 1000 words
True Story – 1000 words
Sketch or Play – 1000 words

The entry fee is €5 (via PayPal) for each submission, and you can make a maximum of two submissions in any category. You can enter online here: SUBMISSIONS

You can also send in your entries by mail to the below address, making sure you enclose a cheque made payable to Success Services Ireland for €5 per entry. Hard copies will not be returned, so please make sure you retain your own copy of your work. Also, to avoid disappointment, please read the competition rules: COMPETITION RULES
